A proud success for the 7th edition of the CIRCERB-ICI 2022 Summer School

20 June 2022

The 7th edition of the Summer School of the NSERC Industrial Research Chair on Sustainable Wood Construction (CIRCERB-ICI 2022) was held on June 8, 2022 at the Université de Laval (UL) and was a great success!

This year, the school is entitled «Rebuilding the future». The Chairholder, Pierre Blanchet, member of the CRMR, and his team succeeded in gathering about a hundred people around the round tables.

Students, partners and professors met to exchange and discuss different themes related to biosourced construction: current issues and vision for the future!

The themes of the seventh edition of the CIRCERB summer school are:
1. Development of new products
2. Design and characterization of building envelopes
3. Understanding of market issues for wood construction
4. Analysis of the environmental impact of buildings
5. Design and characterization of structural elements
6. Optimization of prefabrication techniques
7. Positioning of wood in relation to construction issues

The summer school is a unique opportunity for students not only to improve and consolidate their self-confidence and broaden their skills (communication, teamwork, organizational and management skills, etc.), but also to develop their networks of contacts by exchanging with speakers from backgrounds as diverse as the academic world, the industrial and business world, and the political world.
These relevant exchanges between students, pylons of the future, and experts in the field highlighted the current issues of biosourced construction and unveiled the different alternatives to be undertaken and/or adopted for a better future in a circular economy context.

This meeting was embellished by the conference of Andreas Nikolaus Kleinschmit von Lengefeld, CEO and Founder of the bei HOMO SILVESTRIS EUROPAE, who highlighted the role of the circular bioeconomy for the first transformation of wood and construction products by presenting « the WoodCircus White Paper 2040».
This annual activity allows for exchanges with experts in the field, networking to integrate students into the job market and also to foster new collaborations in research and development! Thus, the summer school stimulates a taste for commitment and equips participants to become leaders in their communities!

Congratulations to the entire CIRCERB team, to the industrial partners of CIRCERB and to the collaborating researchers and professors!
